Do You Have a Camera on You Right Now?

You should really check out Case Jarvis' site, thebestcamera.com./ and see the images being produced using the iPhone app by the same name. The lo-fi photo revolution is here and the world is shooting with a vengance. Cellphone cameras are really the Holgas of the age, though don't write off the real Holga either as a viable medium. The masses are standing up and taking a picure!

Late Afternoon Bean with Seagull

Since the Bean was installed in Chicago's Millennium Park, it has probably become one of Chicago's most photographed artworks. The visual impact of this sculpture is difficult to verbalize, but upon seeing it is remarkable. Moving around it, the mind is instantly shocked into a childlike state and the imagination takes over. DEFINITELY visit the park if you are in Chicago.

Photographing fireworks

Happy Independence Day!, originally uploaded by Flotsammy.

This is the first 4th of July (on the 3rd) for our little Lola. Even though she slept through the whole firework show, we had more fun with her there. This is my first stab at shooting fireworks and that was fun too. I used a tripod and set my aperture at f/13 and the shutter on bulb. I used a remote shutter release and would anticipate the fireworks–opening the shutter right before they burst and closing it as they faded. This worked pretty good, except for when there were 4 or 5 bursts in succession and then the image would get a little blown out. I have to say, Wilmette, IL has an amazing display every year at Gilson Park overlooking Lake Michigan. If you're in the neighborhood, you should stop by. See more fireworks from the Fourth (3rd) of July here.

Isfjord at Sunset

Isfjord at Sunset, originally uploaded by Flotsammy.

An iceberg from this fjord is believed to have taken down the Titanic. No surprise, given the building-sized blocks of ice that are spit from this glacial gulch all day, every day. The Icefjord is a frozen UNESCO site just south of the town of Ilulissat on Greenland's west coast. A slice of Denmark in the high Arctic, there are more sled dogs in this town than people—by a long shot.

Photo-Rama!

I have been taking a lot of photographs lately and making an effort to get some of my past shots on to the web. Check out my images on Flickr. http://www.flickr.com/photos/dirkjensen/
