Photographing fireworks

This is the first 4th of July (on the 3rd) for our little Lola. Even though she slept through the whole firework show, we had more fun with her there. This is my first stab at shooting fireworks and that was fun too. I used a tripod and set my aperture at f/13 and the shutter on bulb. I used a remote shutter release and would anticipate the fireworks–opening the shutter right before they burst and closing it as they faded. This worked pretty good, except for when there were 4 or 5 bursts in succession and then the image would get a little blown out. I have to say, Wilmette, IL has an amazing display every year at Gilson Park overlooking Lake Michigan. If you're in the neighborhood, you should stop by. Isfjord at Sunset

An iceberg from this fjord is believed to have taken down the Titanic. No surprise, given the building-sized blocks of ice that are spit from this glacial gulch all day, every day. The Icefjord is a frozen UNESCO site just south of the town of Ilulissat on Greenland's west coast. A slice of Denmark in the high Arctic, there are more sled dogs in this town than people—by a long shot.
